After dropping a hard-fought first set, Canada's Bianca Andreescu found herself unanswered by world No. 1 player Iga Swiatek and ultimately lost 7-6(2) and 6-0 in the quarter-finals of the tournament. Rome tennis, Friday.

Swiatek capitalized on her three chances to break in the second set, during which the Ontarian won just two of the 11 points contested on her first serve. For the entire duel on clay, the winner had six breaks, compared to three for Andreescu.
The latter had nevertheless done well before, defeating in order the Briton Emma Raducanu (retirement in the second set), the Spaniard Nuria Parrizas Diaz and the Croatian Petra Martic.
