Rain in Sölden: the start of the season is cancelled: the women's giant slalom has been cancelled

The alpine ski season begins with a cancellation. The women's giant slalom in Sölden planned for today has been canceled due to the weather. This was announced by the international ski association Fis in the morning.

"We had several hours of rain last night and therefore wet snow. The track was too soft to ensure a safe race," Fis race director Peter Gerdol justified the cancellation. A possible replacement race should be decided in the coming days.

The men's giant slalom is planned for Sunday on the Rettenbachferner. "The forecast is promising. If we can prepare the track this afternoon and then have a dry night, I'm confident," said Gerdol.
