Free time: Vacationers want to save the drowning and get into trouble themselves

A 60-year-old vacationer from Baden-Württemberg almost drowned at the Koserow pier on Usedom when he tried to rush to help another vacationer in the Baltic Sea. As the police announced on Tuesday evening, a 75-year-old vacationer from Lower Saxony went swimming in the sea in the afternoon. However, he underestimated the strong swell and current - he was no longer able to swim back to the beach on his own and clung to the groynes.

A 60-year-old man became aware of the plight of the 75-year-old and jumped into the water. But he soon lost his strength and couldn't make it back to shore. Both vacationers had to be brought ashore by lifeguards. The 75-year-old from Lower Saxony first had to be resuscitated and finally flown to a hospital in a rescue helicopter. The 60-year-old was also taken to a clinic for observation.
