Another bomb from the Second World War was discovered during exploration and clearance work in Rechlin (Mecklenburg Lake District). The dud, weighing 250 kilograms, has two detonators and is located on the site of the former Bundeswehr depot on the Müritz, as a spokesman for the responsible Röbel office said on Thursday. The Bundeswehr had given up the depot. The municipality has it cleared as part of a so-called conversion so that buyers can use it later.

The explosive ordnance clearance service will assess the American-style dud in early April and then determine when the bomb will be defused or otherwise rendered harmless, the spokesman said. According to experts, there is no immediate danger, the area is cordoned off over a large area.

During the Second World War, between Rechlin and Mirow, there was a large German Air Force testing site with hundreds of employees, which had been bombed several times. Similar dud bombs had been found and defused several times there and in Lärz at the airfield in recent months.
