One of the wagons of the convoy overturned during the accident, which occurred around 6:00 p.m. local time, which was described as "serious" by the emergency service of the Lower Austria region, where the incident occurred.

This source had initially reported that the derailment had caused 30 injuries and that a large rescue operation had been launched.

Four helicopters and several ambulances and fire trucks traveled to the scene of the incident.

Numerous passengers who were not injured in the accident were taken to a Red Cross emergency center in Münchendorf.
