NFL: Touchdown brace for St. Browns in the NFL: "It's cool"

Right at the start of the NFL season, the brothers Equanimeous and Amon-Ra St. Brown caused jubilation and a novelty with a touchdown each. Never before in the history of the league have two German professionals scored points in the National Football League on the same day - and certainly not in such a short time.

"That's cool, my mother texted me and said it was only three minutes between the two touchdowns," said Amon-Ra St. Brown of the German Press Agency.

The 25-year-old Equanimeous St. Brown and the Chicago Bears beat the favored San Francisco 49ers 19:10 and scored the important lead to 13:10 in the meantime. "I'm very happy. It was a bit difficult because of the rain, but we won the game and I got a touchdown," he said. "That was very important. That way I can get momentum and benefit from it." After the overall difficult time with the Green Bay Packers, it was his first main round game for the Bears.

Picking up on last season

"He was in Green Bay for four years and was often injured and only had one touchdown. This is a new beginning for him and he made a touchdown in the first game, so I'm very happy for him," said the 23-year-old Amon-Ra St. Brown. With a total of eight passes caught for 64 yards, he was the most successful receiver for the Lions himself, confirming the strong performances at the end of last season, when he had managed a total of six touchdowns in the last six games. Because in the end it wasn't enough to win 35:38 against the Philadelphia Eagles, he was still dissatisfied: "We wanted to win the game, I think we could have done it too."

The start was not ideal for the third German football professional in the league either. Jakob Johnson from Stuttgart lost 19:24 with the Las Vegas Raiders at the Los Angeles Chargers. "It's hard to start like that, you don't choose it. The only thing you can get out of it is: What do you learn from it," he said after his main round premiere for the Raiders after three years with the New England Patriots. At least the small boost from the two St. Brown touchdowns for the rapidly growing enthusiasm for football in Germany made Johnson happy: "Sport is entertainment and the fans like the highlights - it's good when the German boys are involved in the highlights ."
