Motorcycle pilot Marcel Schrötter still finished in the points at the Australian Grand Prix.

After a difficult qualifying session on Phillip Island on Sunday, the 29-year-old from Landsberg had to start the race from 20th place on the grid and worked his way up the race distance to 13th place. In the overall standings, Schrötter is eleventh after 18 of 20 races.

The Spaniard Alonso Lopez secured the victory. Eleventh place was enough for Japan's Ai Ogura to take the championship lead as previous overall leader, Spaniard Augusto Fernandez, was unable to finish the race.

In the MotoGP race, Spaniard Alex Rins prevailed on his Suzuki. Second place went to his Spanish compatriot Marc Marquez on a Honda. Italy's Francesco Bagnaia completed the podium on his Ducati and took the overall lead as defending champion Fabio Quartararo of France crashed out of the field on his Yamaha.

The season will continue in Sepang (Malaysia) next weekend. The season finale will take place in Valencia, Spain, in three weeks. After that, Marcel Schrötter ends his career in the motorcycle world championship. The German will switch to the series-based Supersport World Championship in the 2023 season and will compete there for MV Agusta.
