Gianni Infantino can plan a third term as president of the world football association FIFA. The Swiss is the only candidate for the March 16, 2023 election in Kigali, as FIFA announced. No other nominations were received.

This means that the re-election of the 52-year-old, who had already been promised support from South America, Asia and Oceania, among others, is considered certain.

The German Football Association and DFB President Bernd Neuendorf announced on Wednesday that they would not nominate a candidate.
