According to security expert Christian Mölling, the visit to Washington by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has strengthened US support for Ukraine. Mölling said on Friday in the stern podcast "Ukraine – the situation" that Selenskyj used the opportunity to woo the hearts of the Americans.

"What he embodied is credibility," said the research director of the German Society for Foreign Policy on the Ukrainian's appearance in front of both houses of the US Congress. He firmly disagreed with the Russian position that the Ukrainian president was a US vassal waging a proxy war against Russia for the superpower. Zelenskyy's independence is evident from the fact that the West is reluctant to "give the Ukrainians weapons that have too great a potential." The United States and other supporters "apparently have a little concern here and there that the Ukrainians will overshoot the mark." They fought for their own survival.

Mölling does not expect the German government to suddenly change its stance on this issue after the US pledge to deliver Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine. He again criticized the fact that Germany wanted to equip eastern NATO partners with Patriots, but not Ukraine itself.
