Former English soccer star George Cohen (1939-2022) has died at the age of 83. This was announced by his former club Fulham FC. In 1966, Cohen became world champion in his own country with the English national team and was vice-captain in the 4-2 final against Germany.

"All associated with Fulham Football Club are deeply saddened by the passing of one of our greatest players of all time - and gentleman - George Cohen MBE," the statement said.

Born in Fulham, Cohen spent his entire football career with Fulham FC. From 1954 to 1969 he made 459 appearances for the club and scored six times as a right-back. In 2016, the association honored him with its own statue.

Cohen played 37 international matches for the English national team. In 2000 he was awarded the "Most Excellent Order of the British Empire" (MBE).

He is survived by his wife Daphne of more than 60 years, sons Anthony and Andrew, and several grandchildren.
