Protests: "Negative, illogical": Iran summons Italy's ambassador

In connection with the protests in the country that have been going on for more than three months, Iran has summoned the Italian ambassador to Tehran to the Foreign Ministry. Rome has been accused of continuous interference in the internal affairs of the Islamic Republic.

The "negative and illogical" statements made by some Italian politicians would strain historical relations between the two countries, the Foreign Ministry criticized on Friday, according to the Isna news agency.

The ambassadors of Germany, France, Great Britain and Norway had previously been summoned because of the criticism raised in several European countries of the violent repression of the anti-government and system-critical protests by the state authorities in Iran. The leadership in Tehran claims the protests are being directed by Iran's "foreign enemies" to force a change of power in the country.
