Fans of the Netflix hit "Bridgerton" are eagerly awaiting the spin-off series "Queen Charlotte". The streaming service has now announced the start date: the six new episodes can be seen from May 4th. A first teaser was also published.

"Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story" tells the backstory of characters from the hit Netflix series. The "Bridgerton" spin-off focuses on Queen Charlotte's young years, but also on her rise to power and fame. Her marriage to King George III. sparked "both a great love story and societal change," according to Netflix. Producer and screenwriter is again Shonda Rhimes (53).

Young Queen Charlotte is played by India Amarteifio (21), while Golda Rosheuvel (53) continues to play the adult Queen. Alongside Charlotte is young Lady Agatha Danbury, played by Arsema Thomas. In "Bridgerton" Adjoa Andoh (60) slipped into the role of the sharp-tongued lady, she will also appear in the spin-off. Danbury will "stand by her friend not only in matters of love, but also in the world of aristocracy," it says. Michelle Fairley (59) can be seen as Princess Augusta.

A new teaser gives a first glimpse of the spin-off. It follows Charlotte meeting and falling in love with King George III, played by Corey Mylchreest. In addition to joint dances, passionate scenes can also be seen. Both the young and the older Lady Danbury and Violet Bridgerton (Ruth Gemmell, 55) are represented in the teaser. The clip ends with young Charlotte defiantly proclaiming, "This is my home. I am the Queen."
