King consort Camilla: Distinguished visit to England

King consort Camilla (75) joins forces with other royals for a good cause. On Monday, the wife of King Charles III. (74) in Clarence House Queen Rania of Jordan (52) and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark (50). The visit came ahead of a reception hosted by Camilla, which media reports say is being held at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday in conjunction with the UN's 16 Days of Activism campaign.

On Instagram, Rania of Jordan posted a picture posing for photographers with Camilla and Mary. The wife of King Abdullah II (60) wrote: "A nice afternoon with Her Majesty, King's wife Camilla, and Her Royal Highness, Crown Princess Mary of Denmark."

Queen Consort Camilla is expected to speak herself at Tuesday's reception. Queen Mathilde of Belgium (49) and Sophie of Wessex (57), wife of Prince Edward (58), are expected to attend the event. Spice Girl Melanie Brown (47) should also be there.

According to the United Nations, the campaign supporting the event calls on individuals and organizations worldwide to organize strategies to eliminate violence against women and girls. The campaign started on November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and will run until December 10, Human Rights Day. Camilla has made supporting victims of rape, domestic violence and sexual abuse a priority in her public work.

Will Camilla's new "companions" also be present at the reception? It was recently announced that she was abolishing the position of lady-in-waiting in the royal family. Instead, the king's wife relies on six confidants to accompany and support her in her tasks, as "The Times" reported, among other things. These are said to be close friends of the Queen Consort, now called "Queen's companions".

According to the newspaper, Camilla's move is a "significant departure" from the style of the late Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022). Her ladies-in-waiting were "constantly present wherever she went". This included trips abroad. Camilla's "companions" are now expected to take on far lighter duties and only accompany her to a few important events each year, they say. According to media reports, these are Sarah Troughton, Jane von Westenholz, Fiona the Marchioness of Lansdowne, Lady Katharine Brooke and Baroness Carlyn Chisholm, and Lady Sarah Keswick.
