DHL: Post expects large parcel volumes in the Christmas business

Despite the looming recession, Deutsche Post DHL assumes that the parcel volumes in this year's Christmas business on peak days will be as high as in the previous year. On individual days before Christmas Eve, up to 11 million shipments per day are expected, the group announced in Bonn. This is the same maximum value as at the end of 2021.

If the forecast is correct, Swiss Post would do well. Competitor DPD is expecting a lower daily maximum quantity for its business than in 2021 and justifies this with high inflation and economic weaknesses, which means that people are ordering fewer parcels.

The end-of-year business is the most important time for the parcel industry because of the high volume of online purchases. Corona restrictions were a growth driver during the Christmas season in 2020 and 2021, this year this will no longer be the case.
