A 61-year-old driver will probably not forget that day in a hurry: three times he was caught drunk by the police during checks, his proud breath alcohol level: at least 1.6 per mille.

The drunk man was noticed by officials in North Rhine-Westphalia on the state border with Rhineland-Palatinate for the first time. The police officers prohibited him from continuing to drive his car – but without success. A short time later, the 61-year-old was checked by Rhineland-Palatinate officials in the area around Montabaur, this time a breath alcohol test showed a value of almost 1.6 per thousand.

Unbelievable: Although not only his driver's license was revoked during this check, but also his vehicle key was seized, he actually drove drunk again a few hours later.

After he was driven to a motel by the police, he slept off his intoxication there. But on Sunday morning, around twelve hours after the first check, he was picked up again by the police in his car and was again (or still) heavily intoxicated.

His approach was particularly bold: Because he still didn't have the keys to the car, the man had a taxi drive him to where his car was parked, according to the police. There, an acquaintance brought him a spare key.

The punishment for the repeat offender is now also drastic: Since the man showed no sense of wrongdoing, his car was confiscated and will now be scrapped. He also has to pay a security deposit of 2000 euros.
