Police in Iceland announced Saturday that they found a small plane in the lake bottom two days after it went missing. It was carrying three tourists and a pilot.

Three tourists boarded the Cessna172N plane on Thursday for a sightseeing trip. They were from the Netherlands, Belgium and the United States, according to Iceland's Morgunbladid newspaper.

The coastguard of Iceland stated that the plane crashed into Lake Thingvallavatn about 40km (25 miles) east from the capital, Reykjavik. It was found using an unmanned submarine.

The plane was not lifted to the surface, and no bodies were found.

The Dutch Foreign Ministry stated to Reuters that it was informed by the airline company about a Dutchman living in Belgium aged 27 who was aboard the plane at the time it vanished.

The nationalities of the other passengers who are missing were not confirmed by Coastguard officials immediately.
