A 23-year-old van driver drove into a trailer truck at high speed on Autobahn 1 at the end of a traffic jam and was seriously injured. His passenger died in the rear-end collision on Tuesday near Stuhr (Diepholz district), the police said. His identity has not yet been finally clarified. The two men were therefore trapped in the van and had to be freed by the fire department.

The 23-year-old was flown to a hospital with serious injuries. The 51-year-old truck driver was not injured. His tractor-trailer had loaded twelve tons of rolls of paper. After the accident, Autobahn 1 in the direction of Hamburg had to be closed from the Stuhr triangle. It should probably not be released again until late Tuesday evening.
