Crime: "Dream Woman" trick: Senior transfers tens of thousands of euros

A supposed dream woman brought a senior in Weinheim (Rhein-Neckar district) out of several tens of thousands of euros. The 84-year-old man was contacted last year via a social network, according to the police on Monday, photos were exchanged - but it is still questionable whether the fraud was actually about a woman.

After the senior fell in love, the woman asked him to temporarily transfer a larger five-digit sum of money to an account abroad. In a second attempt to rip off the man, the bank's branch manager intervened. He became suspicious and prevented further transfers of more than 20,000 euros.

According to the police, the perpetrators always act the same way. The victim soon hopes to have found their dream partner online - without ever having seen the person. In the next stage, joint meetings are arranged, which never happen. As soon as a relationship of trust has been established, money demands come. "Until you become suspicious or your money is completely gone," the police wrote in their report.
