A 74-year-old tractor driver was seriously injured in a rear-end collision near Essen (Cloppenburg district). According to police on Sunday morning, the tractor was overlooked by a drunk 39-year-old who approached from behind in his car. The two vehicles collided Saturday night, throwing the tractor driver out of his seat onto the hood of the car. The 74-year-old was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

According to initial findings, the police suspect the 39-year-old's alcohol consumption to be the cause of the accident: a subsequent test found him to be 1.83 per mille.
