It's raining or the holidays are coming up or something else is making the little ones bored - what's the best way to keep your kids busy (inside)? How about drawing with your kids: it's a lot of fun and there are plenty of ways to keep the kids entertained. We have ideas and tips.

As soon as children no longer put everything in their mouths first and manage to hold the pen, you can already start painting with children. Wax crayons or thick colored pencils that you don't have to press down on the paper with force to see something are particularly suitable for the beginning.

With very small children it is of course not worth trying out different techniques. The best way to do this is to start with a large piece of paper and just let the kids doodle so they get a feel for drawing. And it's best to stick with it so that there aren't any doodles to be found off the paper.

Of course, just painting on a piece of paper quickly becomes boring - even if you paint with different pens or colors. It is therefore worth not only painting freely with children, but also to think about different approaches and goals. For smaller children, these ideas are worthwhile:

You can also paint together with older children and decorate the apartment with the finished works. Here are some ideas that might come in handy:

Wax crayons are a good place to start because you don't have to press them hard on the paper to see color. In addition, the pens provide beautiful effects and the colors come into their own. Of course, normal colored pencils are also suitable for older children.

Finger paints are also suitable for small children so that they get a feel for painting. In addition, finger paints are great for experiencing and feeling - and the results are usually really beautiful, colorful eye-catchers.

Watercolors applied to paper with a brush are more appropriate for older children. With them you can quickly paint large areas and conjure up great effects.

Also more suitable for older children: felt-tip pens. You can paint more delicately with them, so they are more suitable if you want to paint figures and real pictures with motifs with the children.

Of course you should supervise children while painting - especially when they are still small. On the one hand, small children can possibly swallow parts of pens, on the other hand, of course, they also like to paint outside of paper, cardboard and the like. Parents should also make sure that children do not walk around with the pen in their mouth, otherwise they will choke on it or get angry if they fall can hurt.

For children from daycare age, it is worth having their own painting corner in the room, for example on the desk or in a play area on the floor. So they know that they can try everything there - but only there. Desks with a chalkboard or something similar that you can also paint on with chalk are particularly great. Otherwise, you should sit down at the table with the children so that nothing goes wrong. And you should have enough space to spread out your utensils properly.
