After the sexual assault of several women, also from Germany, last New Year's Eve in Milan, the police arrested four other suspects. The men, aged 19 and 20, are accused of sexually assaulting several women on the central cathedral square in the northern Italian metropolis, the police said in Milan on Sunday. They are Egyptian citizens.

Specifically, according to the authorities, there are two incidents: in one, two young women from Germany were victims of the crime at the statue of Vittorio Emanuele II, and in the second, two Italian women near a fast-food restaurant. The perpetrators are said to have sexually harassed the women and also stolen a mobile phone and wallet.

The case caused a stir after January 1 because it was reminiscent of Cologne's New Year's Eve 2015/16. At that time, numerous women were sexually harassed and robbed in the area of ​​the cathedral and the main train station. Most of the accused at that time came from North African countries.

After the incidents in Milan, videos circulated in the media, which are said to have shown the crimes. Many women have filed complaints. In Milan and Turin, officers searched homes, viewed video footage and took testimonies. By May, a total of five men, including two minors, had been arrested.
