Alabama issues an arrest warrant for a missing official in jail

FLORENCE, Ala. (AP) --

Authorities continued their hunt for a "extremely dangerous murder suspect" Monday and issued an arrest warrant against the Alabama jail official who they believe helped him escape.

Vicky White, the assistant director of corrections at the Lauderdale County Detention Center, Florence, Alabama, handcuffed and shackled 38-year-old Casey Cole White. The patrol car that they used to leave the detention center has not been seen since. However, it was found in a nearby parking lot of a shopping center after their disappearance was discovered.

Although authorities don't know where they are located, the inmate should be easily identifiable by his physical appearance. He is 6' 9" (2.06m) tall and weighed in at 260 pounds (118 kg). Authorities advised that no one should approach the pair.

U.S. At a Monday press conference, Marshal Marty Keely stated that both were dangerous and that they are likely to be armed. He said that Casey White would "stand out" due to his size, even though he has made some changes to his appearance.

Rick Singleton, Lauderdale County Sheriff, announced Monday that an arrest warrant had been issued for Vicky White (56), on charges of permitting or allowing escape. She is not related with Casey White who was in 75-years of prison and is awaiting trial for capital murder.

Vicky White stated to coworkers that she would take him to the courthouse for an evaluation of mental health. Singleton later stated that no such evaluation had been scheduled. Singleton stated that she also violated a policy that allowed more than one official involved in transporting prisoners. This was a rule officials stressed for White due to his history. According to the sheriff, video shows that the couple left jail and drove straight to the parking lot.

"We know that she participated. We don't know if she did so willingly or if she was threatened with participation. Singleton stated that we know she participated.

Singleton stated that Casey White is a dangerous person, and that we must get him found and taken off the streets.

Casey White was currently serving time for several crimes, including attempted murder, robbery, and burglary. Authorities said that White confessed while in prison to the stabbing death of a woman aged 58 years old in 2015. He was then brought to the Lauderdale County Jail for court proceedings. According to the sheriff, White was believed to have plotted an earlier escape in 2020 from jail after they discovered a makeshift knife.

If convicted of capital murder, he could be sentenced to death. U.S. Marshals Service is offering up to $10,000 for information. The U.S. Marshals Service offers information worth up to $10,000

Singleton stated Vicky White was an excellent employee, and jail employees are "just distraught."

Vicky White had intended to retire, and Friday would be her last day. He stated that she had sold her house about a month prior and was "talking about going to the coast."

According to the sheriff, they have no leads as to where the two might be located at the moment.

Singleton stated, "If they knew where they were, we would have been there"

Vicky White was the assistant director for corrections and moved around the county detention center. Vicky had many opportunities to contact any inmate every day as a result. She also coordinated inmate transport.

Vicky White's mother Pat Davis told WAAY that she was shocked and scared for her daughter.

"I didn't know how I should act as a mother because I believed it was a mistake at first. Pat Davis says, "And then I discovered for sure it wasn't a mistake. It was just disbelief." She said to the station, "We just want her back", and it was hard for her to believe that her daughter would aid an inmate escape.

Pat Davis stated, "She has never done anything. I bet she's never had a speeding ticket."

Chris Connolly, Lauderdale County District Attorney, said that he was shocked as well. Vicky White spoke with him last Thursday about transporting an injured inmate to receive medical treatment. Nothing seemed unusual.

"She is someone I would trust with everything. She was someone you could trust if you needed anything to happen in that jail. Connolly stated that she was the "go-to" person.
