A kamikaze driver has been arrested in the Valencian town of Canals after killing a man and a woman when he was driving his vehicle at high speed in the opposite direction on a single-lane avenue, according to municipal sources.

The events occurred around three in the morning this Sunday, after the driver, in his fifties, left a pub in the municipality of Canals to get into his vehicle.

According to the newspaper "Las Provincias", the detainee went to Valencia street, a single lane, where he began a reckless journey in which he ran over a couple of about thirty years of Honduran origin. After that, he continued his march until he fell into the Sants riverbed with his car.

The run over man died on the spot while his partner died in hospital due to the serious injuries he suffered in the impact. Canals City Council has decreed three days of mourning starting this Monday and its mayor has contacted the families of the victims to offer her condolences and support.

As for the arrested person, Civil Guard agents traveled to the place where he plunged his car into the river to arrest him and transfer him to a health center. Thus, he continues the investigation into the physical conditions in which he was found during his reckless driving.
