The pandemic of the new coronavirus continues to wreak havoc. The world has crossed this Sunday, June 28, 2020 the milestone of 10 million cases officially diagnosed with the new coronavirus, according to a count conducted by the Agency France-Presse, testifying to an acceleration of the pandemic, notably in the Americas, amid fears of a "second wave" and measures of reconfinement in part.

At least 10 003 942 cases of infection, among which 498 779 deaths, have been identified, including in Europe, the continent most affected with 2 637 546 cases and 195 975 deaths, as well as in the United States (2 510 323 cases, of which 125 539 deaths). The pandemic progresses more quickly in Latin America, with more than 400 000 cases reported over the last seven days on the continent.

20 million infected persons in the United States ?

The number of reported cases in the world has doubled since may 21, and more than a million new cases of Covid-19 have been recorded only on the last six days. In fact, it took 94 days between the announcement of the first case in China and the census of a million infections in the world. Latin America and The Caribbean are still part of the world where the disease is progressing more quickly : from 21 to 27 June, the region has recorded 408 401 new cases, compared with 253 624 in the United States and Canada and 121 824 in Europe. The increase in the region (2 432 558 cases, 110 of which 695 deaths in total) is tied in large part to the rising cases of Brazil (1 313 667 cases, of which 246 088 new on the last seven days), but also in Peru (275 989, 24 651 new), Chile (267 766, 31 018), Mexico (212 802, 37 600 new) and Colombia (88 592, 22 959 new).

Asia seems to be experiencing an upsurge in the number of cases daily Covid-19, pushed by the sustained propagation of the disease in India (528 859 cases, of which 118 398 last seven days), Pakistan (202 955, 26 338 new) and Bangladesh (137 787, 25 481 new). In Europe, the number of new infections recorded daily stabilizes since more than a month to less than 20 000 new cases reported every day, but WHO worries about an acceleration of the contamination in eleven countries of the region. Ukraine has recorded 1 109 case Friday, a record called "wave serious" by the authorities.
