Manchester United vs. Southampton: The Cristiano Ronaldo goal drought continues against the Saints

Manchester United lost a match that it expected to win. Instead, it settled for a 1-1 draw with West Ham.

Saints were levelled by Che Adams, a Southampton forward, just a few minutes before the end of the first half. It was a well-deserved equalizer for Saints. The visitors had many chances to score throughout the match.

Southampton, a hardworking team (29 points), is enjoying a good run. The draw at Old Trafford follows a win against Tottenham Hotspur as well as a draw against Man City at home. Saints are currently in the top 10 Premier League teams with only one loss in 10 league matches. They will be facing Everton on Saturday, February 19.

Manchester United (5th,40 points) will be looking to end the frustrations of consecutive 1-1 draws against Southampton and Burnley when Ralf Rangnick's team hosts Brighton & Hove Albion Tuesday, February 15. Cristiano Ronaldo believes that this match will be the one to end a six-game drought of scoring points. Ralf Rangnick's men host Brighton & Hove Albion on Tuesday, February 15.

92nd min. 92nd min. This save could have resulted in a draw for Southampton.

90th min. : Five minutes stoppage time

89th min. : This one has a very contentious and nervy ending. Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard and Jesse Lingard are both in the books. Between those warnings, Armando Broja almost created a chance by himself, but Harry Maguire made a last ditch recovery in the box. : SUB -- Marcus Rashford is replaced by Jesse Lingard by Manchester United. Lingard is widening his line while Elanga joins Ronaldo at the top.

75th min. : SUB -- Anthony Elanga is on for Scott McTominay. Man United will go for it. Paul Pogba will be joined by Bruno Fernandes in the central midfield. 72nd minute. : Another Man United goal was offside. Replays show that Ronaldo was clearly offside in the Jadon Sancho flick header.

71st min. 71st min. Walker-Peters will move up to the right wing, while Livramento will play back.

69th min. : Southampton with two consecutively dangerous looks. Stuart Armstrong was the first to fire high. Armando Broja followed suit, but he couldn't hit an onrushing David De Gea.

61st min. Man United has responded. Cristiano Ronaldo & Diogo Dalot score back-to-back goals, but Fraser Forster, Southampton's goalkeeper, stops them both.

54th min. Man United is currently being tested. De Gea must push back an Armando broja blast. This results in back-to-back Southampton corners. Man United survives unscathed.

Halftime: Manchester United 1, Southampton 0.

Halftime: Although it was a typical Manchester United performance, with a positive start to the game and a goal, Southampton proved to be a strong team as the second half progressed. To avoid drama in the second period, the Red Devils will need to score more goals. We will see if Man United has the strength to keep going. Recent matches have shown that Ralf Rangnick's team doesn't respond well to adversity.

41st min. 41st min. Minutes after a Kyle Walker–Peters ball crosses the goal's face, Stuart Armstrong takes a shot in Man United's box from a throw-in. But he is unable to make contact, and Man United's 'keeper David De Gea keeps on.

35th min. 35th min. This comes after Oriol Romeu (Saints teammate and central midfielder) made a move that saw him pushing higher up the field than he used to, instead of being pushed back between the centre backs.

32nd min. 32nd min. Elyounoussi's wide left seems to be the most dangerous Southampton player so far. Armando Broja, Che Adams and others are desperate for service.

28th min. 28th min. This was Sancho's second league goal, after scoring against Chelsea on Nov. 28. Man United, especially Sancho or Rashford, is always ready to take the ball from Southampton.

He continued his run into box and fed Sancho at far post for an easy finish. 16th minute. YELLOW card to Marcus Rashford, for a hard and sliding tackle on Romain perraud. They are fighting down the flank (Rashford so far is the right-winger vs. Southampton’s left back).

10th min. 10th min. Both sides got off to a great start at Old Trafford.

7th min. : Ronaldo chance! Sancho sends Ronaldo through, and he beat the 'keeper. But he was a casual with his goal. Southampton's Romain Perurud and Mohammed Salisu were clear. The Ronaldo goal drought continues.
