Women's national team: First games of the World Cup divided between ARD and ZDF

After the TV rights for the women's soccer World Cup were awarded to ARD and ZDF, the two public broadcasters split up the first games for the broadcasts.

ARD will start with the opening game of co-hosts New Zealand against Norway on July 20 (9:00 a.m. CEST) in Auckland. The second shows the finale from Sydney on August 20 (12:00 p.m. CEST).

ZDF is also present at two of the three preliminary round games of the German women: at the opening game of the team of national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg on July 24 (10:30 a.m. CEST) against Morocco in Melbourne and at the match on August 3 (12:00 p.m./ CEST) against South Korea in Brisbane. ARD's turn against Colombia in Sydney on July 30 (11:30 a.m./CEST). ZDF announced the division on Thursday on request. The "t-online" portal also reported.

ZDF wanted to provide further details on reporting, commentators and experts at a later date. At the ARD, the NDR is in charge of World Cup reporting. Florian Fehrenbach and Mirjam Bach will be responsible.

Lufen and Künzer lead through the show

As in the past, the two public broadcasters work closely together on major events, including in production. According to Fehrenbach, there will not be a joint studio like the one at the men's World Cup in Qatar. At the tournament last November and December, the two World Cup teams shared a studio in Mainz. ARD will broadcast from an existing NDR studio in Hamburg. Claus Lufen is scheduled to be the moderator, with Nia Künzer at his side as an expert. Christina Graf, Stephanie Baczyk and Bernd Schmelzer will comment on the games.

ARD and ZDF reached an agreement on Wednesday via the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). Accordingly, all games of the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand will be shown on public broadcasters from July 20th to August 20th.
