26th Bundesliga matchday: FC Bayern back at the top – crisis clubs lose

FC Bayern regained the lead in the first game under new coach Thomas Tuchel with a win against Borussia Dortmund. Munich prevailed 4-2 (3-0) and pushed BVB back from first place.

Like Dortmund, the relegation candidates VfB Stuttgart and FC Schalke 04 experienced a sobering Saturday. The Swabians remain 3-0 (0-0) at third-placed 1. FC Union Berlin bottom of the Bundesliga, while Gelsenkirchen, who are only one rank higher, lost 3-0 (0-0) against Bayer Leverkusen.

After all, Hertha BSC collected a point with the 1-1 (0-0) at SC Freiburg, but remains on the relegation place. RB Leipzig suffered a setback in the fight for the Champions League places with the 0: 3 (0: 1) against FSV Mainz 05. The gap to Freiburg in fourth place is two points. Despite a 2-0 lead, FC Augsburg only managed to draw 2-2 (2-0) at VfL Wolfsburg.

Dominant Bavaria

In the top game in Munich, an early mistake by the recovered BVB goalkeeper Gregor Kobel initiated the Dortmund defeat. After the Swiss's own goal (13th minute), Thomas Müller (18'/23') and Kingsley Coman (50') scored the other goals for the hosts. Emre Can (72', penalty kick) and Donyell Malen (90') shortened the long harmless BVB.

Leverkusen leveraged the Schalke defense with two quick passes and took the lead through Jeremie Frimpong (50th). National player Florian Wirtz (61st) scored the second goal, which was reassuring from a Leverkusen perspective. Sardar Azmoun (90.2) followed up.

Sheraldo Becker (51st) scored for Union and brought VfB even greater relegation problems. The 28-year-old Dutchman was ill during the week but made it into the starting XI. Kevin Behrens (67th) and Genki Haraguchi (68th) decided the game within minutes.

Hertha fell behind in the second half through a goal by Vincenzo Grifo (52nd). The Berliners didn't give up afterwards and scored a deserved equalizer through Jessic Ngankam (77').

Leipzig in crisis

Marcus Ingvartsen (9th) put FSV in the lead in Leipzig - and put RB in trouble. So far this season, the Saxons had not won after falling behind, and that remained the case. After the break, Ludovic Ajorque (57th) increased Mainz' lead before Dominik Kohr (67th) was also successful.

Maximilian Arnold (2nd) scored early in Wolfsburg, but with an own goal against his own team. In the 20th minute, the 28-year-old missed a penalty kick. New international Mërgim Berisha (32nd) increased for FCA. But Luca Waldschmidt (85th) and Felix Nmecha (90th 6) still ensured the draw.
