Protest camp in Saxony: Clearing of the Heidebogen forest has begun

The clearing of a forest occupied by activists near Ottendorf-Okrilla north of Dresden has begun. On Wednesday morning, the Sachsenforst state enterprise issued a ban on staying and entering the forest area near Ottendorf-Okrilla. According to a dpa reporter on site, the evacuation was peaceful.

The emergency services first removed barricades and filled in trenches so that the technology required for the evacuation could be brought to the site. In addition, the police cordoned off the area so that no other people could enter the forest.

According to the officials, there are still several dozen activists in the protest camp, around 25 of whom have holed up in tree houses. Some tree houses have already been cleared by a so-called high-altitude intervention team from North Rhine-Westphalia. MPs from the Greens and Left and other parliamentary representatives also came to the wooded area to see if everything was going reasonably during the eviction.

Parallel to the clearing of the forest, the clearing with machines already started. Around 50 employees of the Sachsenforst were in the forest for this purpose. Among other things, they should ensure that escape routes are kept clear. The activists were asked via loudspeaker to leave the premises. If they fail to do so, coercion could be used, it said.

According to the first information, the squatters behaved cooperatively. According to the police, an activist only actively resisted in one case.
