So it came as a surprise to many when, following Anne Spiegel's resignation, she was appointed head of the almost unpronounceable BMFSFJ – the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth. She herself said recently that she prefers the term Ministry of Society. But she wouldn't mind the ungendered seniors.
