Sharon Stone turns 65: The fate of the film star

Her life has been shaped by severe strokes of fate for years. But Sharon Stone has proven more than once that she's a roly-poly. The US actress has not let herself be defeated by several tumors and operations, a stroke with cerebral hemorrhage, nine miscarriages, a lost custody battle and various bereavements in the family. On the occasion of her 65th birthday on March 10th, we look back on her moving life story.

After her first jobs as a model in the Big Apple, Sharon Stone's acting career started in 1980 with a role in Woody Allen's (87) "Stardust Memories". She then appeared in films such as Police Academy 4 (1987), Action Jackson (1988) and Total Recall (1990) before starring in Basic Instinct in 1992 great breakthrough. But her role in the erotic thriller, for which she was nominated for both a Golden Globe and a Golden Raspberry, also drew negative headlines for years.

In general, "Basic Instinct" contains many revealing sex scenes, which was too much of a good thing for some viewers at the time. The scene showing Stone's privates because she wasn't wearing any underwear under her dress stuck in many people's minds. Stone later explained that she wasn't aware of the dress scene. Accordingly, she would have been told to take off her panties, but no intimate parts would be recognized. Stone was certainly not aware at the time that her star role would have an impact on her later life as a mother.

What followed their first successes on the big screen should be unimaginable for the vast majority of people. In September 2001, the American suffered a stroke and, as a result, a cerebral hemorrhage, the consequences of which she had to struggle with for a long time. She fought for her life in intensive care for nine days. Over the next two years, Stone had to learn to walk, see, speak, and read again.

That same year, Stone had multiple benign tumors removed from both of her breasts. However, her operating doctor also performed a breast augmentation on the actress during the procedure – without her consent. The surgeon in charge explained: The new breasts would fit her hips better. In November 2022, Stone tweeted that she had been diagnosed with another tumor in her uterus and had to undergo surgery again. It's hard to believe that Stone was faced with yet another serious diagnosis with dire consequences...

... the disease endometriosis. These are growths of tissue similar to the lining of the uterus. Nine miscarriages were the result. "This is no small matter, physically or emotionally. And yet we are made to feel like this is something we must deal with alone and in secret, believing we have failed," she wrote in a June 2022 issue Commenting on an Instagram post from the People page. Despite this "devastating experience", she never gave up her desire to have children.

Stone didn't really work out in love either. Her two marriages to Michael Greenburg (from 1984 to 1987) and Phil Bronstein (from 1998 to 2004) broke up. With the latter, she adopted little Roan Joseph (22), Stone's eldest son, in 2000. However, after Bronstein split, an ugly custody battle ensued, which Stone lost in 2008. Only recently she spoke in the Apple podcast "Table for Two" about the defeat, which weighed heavily on her at the time. "I ended up at the Mayo Clinic," where she had been treated for the time being. Acting faded from the limelight so that she could fully devote herself to her private life.

Stone is now certain that the loss of custody was also related to her role in "Basic Instinct". Accordingly, the judge asked her then eight-year-old son if he knew that his mother "makes sex films". The actress describes it as "some kind of abuse by the system."

Shortly after the Bronstein divorce, however, luck was on Stone's side. Single, she adopted two more male newborns in 2005 and 2006. With Quinn Kelly (16) and Laird Vonne (17) Roan got two younger brothers.

After a period of calm in Stone's personal and professional life, her family suffered a shocking bereavement in August 2021. Her little nephew, River, died of organ failure when she was just 11 months old. The pictures she shared of her brother Patrick Stone's son and his wife Tasha on Instagram got under the skin and around the world.

Just a year and a half later, her brother Patrick closed his eyes forever. He died at the age of 57 from complications from heart disease.

It is amazing that Sharon Stone's career as an actress did not fall by the wayside despite all the strokes of fate she wrote in her autobiography "The Beauty of Living Twice", published in 2021. Over the years she has repeatedly played roles in television series such as "Practice - Die Anwälte" or "Law
