A simple alternative to the sewing machine zigzag stitch is pinking shears. It has triangular teeth that can cut a zigzag pattern. This way you can avoid fabric bulges at seams and frayed edges.

You need a few supplies to sew, which means you need a handy place to store everything. A classic sewing box is best suited for this.

As soon as it goes beyond darning socks or simply mending clothing, a sewing machine is recommended. In the beginning, it takes practice and you have to find your own pace to use it properly, but over time you will understand and be able to use all the advantages of the sewing machine.

Do not despair, because as a sewing beginner, the first seams are usually not that clean and often have to be unpicked. To begin with, use sheets of paper for practice rather than fabric. In particular, sewing back and forth to close the seam requires practice and can be improved with such sheets of paper.
