Cult: Matthias Opdenhövel saves the pub

Moderator Matthias Opdenhövel ("The Masked Singer") wants to do his hometown Detmold a service by saving a cult pub. "I'm an enthusiastic Detmold, even if I haven't lived there for a long time. My parents still live there," said the 52-year-old of the German Press Agency in Cologne.

That's why he decided: The "Lui" pub, which had been empty for three years due to the pandemic, should not die. So he took it over with a friend. "I simply owed that to Detmold," said Opdenhövel. At the same time, he emphasized that he would not become a pub owner or restaurateur himself. The pub is leased.

According to Opdenhövel, an opening is not imminent. "We still have to renovate a bit. The store is a cult - but it hasn't seen filler for a long time," he reported. "We're going to make it nice now and we want to open it sometime in early summer."

Opdenhovel was born in Detmold in 1970. He is known, among other things, as the moderator of the ProSieben show “The Masked Singer”, which starts a new season on April 1 (8:15 p.m.). However, the city in Ostwestfalen-Lippe has also produced many other celebrities. Also born in Detmold were, for example, actress Iris Berben (72), actor Wotan Wilke Möhring (55), presenter and comedy author Tommi Schmitt (34) and Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier (67).
