Princess Kate (42) announced on Friday, March 22nd that she had cancer. Her loving husband, Prince William (41), will support her in the coming weeks and months with her continued treatment and recovery, but will also continue to fulfill his royal duties as heir to the British throne. A spokesman for Kensington Palace also announced this on Friday.
"The Prince will continue to find a balance between supporting his wife and family and carrying out his official duties, as he has done since the beginning of the year," the spokesman said, according to People, shortly after Kate's cancer announcement.
Their children Prince George (10), Princess Charlotte (8) and Prince Louis (5) are currently on Easter vacation. Fortunately, the family is currently able to spend the coming Easter holidays in private. After the Easter holidays, however, it is expected that Prince William will return to his royal duties, as he has done in recent weeks, as reported by the British Daily Mail, among others.
Princess Kate and Prince William will also not attend the traditional Easter service in St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle this year, reports the US magazine "People". The service will fall on March 31 this year, but Kate's family of five is expected to stay away.
Despite the seriousness of her illness, Kate's return to her royal duties does not seem to be ruled out in the future. "The Princess will return to her official duties as soon as her medical team allows her to do so," said a Kensington Palace spokesman on Friday. For now, however, the Princess of Wales would focus "on her full recovery," it said.
After Kate's cancer and the previously announced cancer of King Charles III. (75), the royal family can currently only count on four high-ranking working royals: King Charles' wife Queen Camilla (76) as well as the monarch's siblings, Princess Anne (73) and Prince Edward (60) and his wife, Duchess Sophie (59 ). Since the beginning of the year, these four have already attended over 170 royal appointments. They will most likely be used more frequently for official engagements in the coming weeks and months.
