The Dresdner SC volleyball players started the playoffs with a defeat. Alexander Waibl's team surprisingly had to admit defeat to VC Wiesbaden 2:3 (26:28, 28:26, 25:15, 23:25, 19:21) in the first quarter-final game in front of 2,735 spectators in their home arena. This means the Hessians are leading 1-0 in the best-of-three series and can secure their place in the semi-finals with another win at home on Wednesday, while the Elbe city team can only force the decider on Easter Saturday in Dresden with a win.

From the start, the sixth-placed team from Wiesbaden served powerfully, showed themselves to be very well-adjusted tactically and, in particular, diagonal attacker Izabella Rapacz (32 points) was able to overcome the Dresden defense again and again. In the second set, the DSC women fought to equalize the set, especially thanks to their middle blocker Tia Jimerson (25 points). After Alexander Waibl's protégés had dominated the third period a little more clearly, the Hessians came back in the fourth round. In the decisive tiebreak, the six-time German champions from Saxony missed a few chances, initially fended off four opposing match points, but then failed to take advantage of three of their own opportunities. After 136 hard-fought minutes, Tanja Großer converted the fifth match point to victory.
