According to witnesses and footage circulated on social media, comedian Dave Chappelle was attacked on stage at the Hollywood Bowl on Tuesday night.

Many event attendees uploaded videos of Tuesday's incident. The footage appears to show Chappelle performing on stage while a man to his right rushes towards him trying to tackle him.

Security then drags the man away.

ABC7 Eyewitness News reported on the LAPD's response to an incident at Hollywood Bowl and that they had taken a man in custody who was armed and dangerously armed with a knife and a gun.

Video footage of Chappelle recovering his composure after the attack shows him laughing, "It wasn't a trans man." This joke refers to the ongoing controversy over some of Chappelle's jokes on his Netflix specials, which have been seen as being transphobic.

In video from the curtain call, Chappelle talked more about the incident, and called out actor-comedian Jamie Foxx to thank him. Chappelle said, "Whenever you get in trouble Jamie Foxx will show-up in a sheriff’s hat."

"N ----, I assumed that was part the show, but I wasn't sure what the fuck ..." Foxx jokes were in response.

Chappelle said, "I grabbed that back of that n ----head. His hair was soft. Absorbent"

Foxx then addresses the crowd and Chappelle. "Listen, this man is an absolute genius. Foxx stated, "We have to ensure that we protect him at every moment."

He said, "For every comedian that comes out here, it means everything. You are a genius. You are a legend. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with you, and we won't let anything happen to you."

Foxx then laughs at Chappelle, saying "I've done this for 35 years." I just stomped on a n ------ backstage. That's what I've wanted to do for years."

Chappelle performed as part of Netflix Is A Joke Fest in Los Angeles, which is a comedy festival that was put on by streaming giant Netflix.

The Hollywood Reporter reached out to Chappelle's representatives and Netflix for comments. The spokesperson for the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association (which operates the Hollywood Bowl) was unable comment because there was an ongoing investigation.

This attack on Chappelle will likely reignite concerns in the comedy world about audiences rushing to the stage and attacking comedians. This issue was brought up after Chris Rock was slapped by Will Smith at the Oscars.

A THR report reveals that comedy clubs had been considering security guards, preshow warnings, and metal detectors in the wake of the slap incident.
