Nelson ShSotheby's auction house reported that a portrait of Princess Diana sold for more than 10x its estimated sale price.anks, an American artist, painted the oil painting entitled "Diana, Princesse of Wales". Sotheby's estimated it would fetch between $20,000 and $201,600, but it sold for $201,600.

This rare painting is a head-study of Diana, which was done during Diana's full-length portrait. Head studies are often used by artists to capture the emotions and perspectives of their subjects' faces.

 

According to Sotheby’s, the photo shows the princess with "downcast eyes" as well as a "thoughtful expression". However, the green halter dress she wore was later replaced by a white blouse in the final larger project
