After a stabbing in Coquitlam, one woman has been declared dead. A homicide investigation into her death is under way.

Late Thursday afternoon, violence broke out in an underground parkade close to Austin Avenue and Marmont Street.

Coquitlam RCMP responded to an underground parkade located in an alley behind a strip center on Austin Avenue at 4:30 Thursday afternoon.

Officers arrived to find a woman with stab wounds.

Const. Deanna Law, Coquitlam RCMP in a news release.

It seems that the parkade is used by three businesses: RW Real Estate Group and Austin Heights Pizza. South Castle Korean Restaurant also appears to be using it.

Although the parkade does indeed have a gate at the entrance, it is not clear if it was opened at the time the attack occurred.

Investigators focused their attention on a white pickup truck with fingerprinting powder residue inside.

Although the parkade floor was clearly cleaned up, there were still bloodstains on many spots.

Although there are security cameras in the room, detectives still need more evidence.

Law stated that homicide investigators would like to speak to anyone who was present in the area with dash-cam footage between 2:30 and 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 27, in an area near the 1100-block Austin Avenue.

Coquitlam RCMP is currently working with the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team.

"Canvassing is being done for witnesses." "As is confirmation of victim identification followed by locating next of kin," said Sgt. David Lee sent an email to CTV News on Thursday night.

Investigators are unable to provide any information about a suspect or the motive behind the attack. They also don't know if there is a risk to the public.

IHIT will likely provide an update Friday.
