Electromobility: Minister of Transport on e-cars: "The world is watching us"

Federal Transport Minister Volker Wissing wants to use a package of measures to promote the expansion of the charging network for electric cars. "We have no time to lose," said the FDP politician.

For the expected ramp-up of e-mobility, charging stations need to be set up in advance. E-mobility will only find acceptance if charging is as easy as refueling. Gaps would have to be avoided, especially in rural areas.

The cabinet decided on a new plan for this. The goal is a nationwide and user-friendly charging network. In order to do this, obstacles need to be removed. The federal government's goal is one million publicly accessible charging points in Germany by 2030 - so far there are around 70,000.

Wissing: Germany should become the lead market for e-mobility

"The world is looking at us," said Wissing. Because of its strong auto industry, Germany wants to become the lead market for e-mobility. The development of charging points in residential areas or at gas stations is to be promoted. The plan has been agreed with the economy as well as with the federal states and municipalities.

According to Wissing, the federal government has earmarked 6.3 billion euros for implementation. The minister described integration into the power grid as the most difficult task.
