The former president of the Spanish Government, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, assured this Friday that Bolivia's democracy "is strong" almost two years after the political crisis that the country faced, and he described as "exemplary" the elections that gave a majority to the now Bolivian President Luis Arce.

"I am very happy to come to Bolivia and see that democracy is strong after everything that happened almost two years ago, after the exemplary democratic election of the Bolivian people that gave the majority to President Arce", said Zapatero, who is in La Paz on a visit, as reported by the Bolivian newspaper 'El Mundo'.

The former Spanish president has been invited by the Plurinational Diplomatic Academy, dependent on the Bolivian Foreign Ministry, to attend an international conference on the effects and consequences of the resurgence of European nationalism, according to the Bolivian news agency, ABI.

In addition, during his visit to Bolivia, the former Spanish president also met former Bolivian president Evo Morales, whom he flattered by saying that "he never gives up" and that he is with "humble people."

"I have learned many things from Evo, (among them) to never give up. That the most important thing is humble people, (because) they change history. They are the ones who build solidarity towns (...) He is my friend and I want him to come to Spain to explain everything he did," he assured at a joint press conference with Morales in Chimoré, in central Bolivia, according to 'Los Tiempos'.

Likewise, the former Spanish president has maintained that Bolivia and Spain are "equal", and that the Bolivian people have given "a lesson" on the road to equality, after confessing that he "suffered" when Evo Morales left the Government in 2019.
