The leave for menstruation will be in the abortion law: it will be assumed by the State and will not require a minimum contribution

MADRID, 13 May. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The sick leave due to painful menstruation will be in the preliminary draft of the abortion law that the Government plans to approve in the Council of Ministers next Tuesday, as reported to Europa Press on Friday by government sources.

The same sources have indicated that it will be a temporary disability assumed by Social Security from the first day, so it will not entail any cost for companies.

In addition, it will not require, as it is done with other common temporary incapacities, any minimum quoted time, nor will a number of days be established, but they will be those that each woman needs.

The Secretary of State for Equality and against Gender Violence, Ángela Rodríguez, had already anticipated that this measure would be the norm. She did so in statements to the media from Palma de Mallorca, where she met this Friday with the Balearic Minister of the Presidency.

Rodríguez explained that this measure will place Spain at the forefront" of health and reproductive rights and has claimed that labor law "cannot be gender neutral".

The Government thus agrees on an issue that was still negotiating this week, as explained this Wednesday by the Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, José Luis Escrivá.

The minister explained that he was working with Equality to find a "balance" to strengthen their "protection" in these cases and make it compatible so that the "full" participation of women in the labor market is not "hindered".
