The expansion of wind turbines in Lower Saxony should go faster. Lower Saxony's Environment Minister Christian Meyer (Greens) wants to achieve the planned expansion target of 2.2 percent of the state's area as early as 2026, as he told the Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung on Monday evening. To this end, the federal state wants to pass its own law that sets expansion targets for each municipality.

The federal government's new "wind on land law", which comes into force in February, stipulates that two percent of the federal area be designated for wind energy by the end of 2032. "We're going to do it a little faster," Meyer said. For Lower Saxony, the law stipulates that 2.2 percent of its state area must be dedicated to wind power.
