The Easter holidays begin in ten federal states at the weekend - the ADAC therefore expects a lot of traffic jams on the motorways.

Especially on Friday afternoon and Saturday, it is likely to be tight on the motorways in the metropolitan areas and on the important travel routes. According to the ADAC, most holidaymakers go to the Alps, to southern holiday countries or to the coast to spend Easter there.

There are currently around 1160 construction sites on the German autobahns. They could become traffic jams when there are many cars on the road. Traffic jams also threatened in the neighboring countries, it was said: The Easter holidays are also starting in all Austrian federal states and in some Swiss regions.

ADAC: Observe diesel driving ban

At the same time, the ADAC pointed out the diesel driving ban on the Mittlerer Ring in Munich. Since February 1st, vehicles with the Euro 4/IV emission standard and worse are no longer allowed to drive there.

For example, if you are coming from Nuremberg on the A9 motorway and want to take the A95 in the direction of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, you can bypass the Mittlerer Ring using the A92 and A96. ADAC Südbayern recommends finding out about possible alternative routes before you set off.

The holidays begin at the weekend for schoolchildren in Bavaria, Berlin, Brandenburg, Hesse, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia. Bremen and Lower Saxony have been on vacation for a week.
