Sweet Magnolias Cast Weighs In on Biggest Season 2 Premiere Twists: Helen's News, the Accident and More

Sweet Magnolias fans can finally relax almost two years after they were left to deal with a series of terrible cliffhangers.

Netflix's drama Maddie & Co. waited in silence for news on the car accident. The aftermath of the car accident was just one of many important developments that will impact everyone's season.

The show's stars, JoAnna Garcia Swisher and Heather Headley, were happy to discuss the juicy details in an interview with TVLine.

You can grade the premiere below and then continue reading for the stars' opinions on what happened... and what lies ahead.

Let's begin with the million-dollar question: Who was in that car? And what happened next? The premiere begins with everyone who has gathered at the hospital where Kyle is currently undergoing surgery for severe but not life-threatening injuries. Nellie was with him in the car, but her injuries were much less severe. Ronnie and Dana Sue were relieved to find that Annie was not in the car.

Tyler wasn't even in the car. However, Tyler manages to escape the premiere unharmed. After a fight with Jackson, Tyler injures his arm. It will take between four and six weeks for the injury to heal. He is furious, it's obvious. Like, cry-himself-to-sleep upset.

Swisher told TVLine that they had their theories about who was in the car. "But I didn't anticipate all this drama," Swisher said. "I feel like this season we really get into some battles. Given all the elements in that first episode, I knew it would be a rollercoaster season.

MADDIE AND THE CAL REUNITE

Even though they were at odds in the finale Serenity's No. This premiere sees 1 couple back on the scene -- and viewers are not the only ones relieved.

Swisher tells TVLine that he was shocked that Cal and Maddie got back together so quickly. However, he was happy for it. "Maddie overreacted in the finale, so she should probably forgive her."

MADDIE VS. Bill

Maddie and Bill have a heated exchange during the premiere.

Swisher told TVLine that she is done with carrying his burden. Swisher says that everyone has experienced a similar situation in their lives. He can't hold her responsible anymore. She must make sure she supports those she loves.

This sentiment is especially true as Season 2 approaches.

DANA SUE IS NOT THE ISAAC'S MOTHER

We learn that Isaac is not biologically related to Dana Sue, but she and the other women in the premiere promise to help him locate his parents.

And how's this for a twist-within-a-twist: Elliott has known the truth since she filmed the Season 1 finale! Elliott went straight to Sheryl J. Anderson, the showrunner, as she was preparing for the scene in which Isaac asks Dana Sue whether she is his mother.

Elliott tells TVLine that he needed to be able to perform that scene. He doesn't want to reveal anything, but he needed some knowledge. We are often kept in the dark. But in preparation for that scene I had to find out if he was my child. So I asked Sheryl and she confirmed that I wasn't. However, I wasn't able to tell for some time before that. It was like, "Oh my God, is this my child?" '"

JEREMY? OR RONNIE

You are seriously underestimating how difficult it is for Dana Sue to decide between Ronnie and Jeremy by the end. You can't blame her for trying to make the most of this situation, since both men bring very different, but equally hot, things to it.

Elliott told TVLine that Dana Sue is so grateful for Jeremy. He allows her to feel beautiful once again. She feels loved and desired. He is also so innocent and truly loves her. This is for me a great gift. I support Jeremy in these ways, but Ronnie and I just feel their souls align. Ronnie is the one I root for, but Jeremy has so much worth to me. It's hard!"

DANA SUE VS. MADIE

Dana Sue is the unexpected guest in the premiere. She slams Maddie for her reckless sons and the danger it placed her daughter in. It could have been dangerous for her. She's at the end.

Elliott told TVLine that she actually thought Dana Sue's actions were great. She's always there to support Maddie through her divorce and with the children, but sometimes she forgets about Annie. It was very healthy for her to tell Annie, "My daughter has been through a lot too, as some of that is due to your son." She might have gotten a little too caught up in the frustration, and calmer minds might have said it differently. But she was protecting Annie at that time.

This rift won't last long but it is a reminder that friendships can have ups and downs. Elliott says, "It's healthy to see that you can argue and still be friends tomorrow." "Everything these characters experience is so relatable to our daily lives."

HELEN IS PREGNANT

The premiere saves the best twist for last. It reveals that Helen is pregnant. This marks the beginning of an important story arc for Helen. It was created through a discussion between Headley, Anderson.

Headley recalls that they were speaking at the end Season 1 and she asked me what I would like to see for Helen. We talked about Helen's success and how she has it all. She has a great career and a beautiful house, and is always willing to help others. She's missing a husband or a child.

Anderson says, "We agreed that Helen, who had a plan, followed it, and achieved success, might still desire this one." Many people are unable to find that one thing.
