Hercules, Munchausen and the Devil from St. Marien zu Lübeck are the stars of the sand sculpture exhibition, which is visiting Travemünde for the sixth time. They are accompanied by the heroes of Greek, Roman and German legends, who take them into the world of "legends, myths and legends" in a hall on the grounds of the Travemünde fishing port. The show opened its doors to visitors on Saturday and is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. until November 3rd.

Large and small figures made of sand and water were created over a covered area of ​​around 3,500 square meters over the course of several weeks. According to the organizers, the largest ones are up to seven meters high, weigh several tons and 24 artists from all over the world were involved in their design. The organizer said that 10,000 cubic meters of sand were used for the 110 figures.

The first sand sculpture exhibition entitled "Sand World" took place in 2002 on the Priwall beach in Travemünde. Since the number of visitors fell short of expectations due, among other things, to several rainy summers, the "Sand World" was discontinued after 2007. The new sand sculpture exhibition began in 2019, which takes place protected from the weather in a former boat hall.
