Energy crisis: Gas prices have already risen significantly in the first half of the year

Energy consumers in Germany already felt the consequences of the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine in the first half of 2022.

For private customers, the gas price rose by an average of 17.7 percent to 8.04 cents per kilowatt hour compared to the second half of 2021, as reported by the Federal Statistical Office on Monday. Non-household customers such as companies and authorities had to cope with increases of 38.9 percent at a lower level. They paid an average of 6.43 cents.

In the case of electricity, on the other hand, the lower EEG surcharge dampened the price increase. For households, the prices rose by only 1.9 percent, the rest had to pay 19.3 percent more. The office put the average electricity price for household customers at 33.50 cents per kilowatt hour. The rest paid an average of 19.86 cents.
