According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the flu epidemic in Germany has peaked. This emerges from the weekly report of the Influenza working group of the RKI. According to this, “influenza activity has been declining for several weeks”.

The wave of influenza started exceptionally early this season - as early as the end of October. At the beginning of December, the RKI spoke of values ​​above the level of previous years at the peak of severe flu waves.

According to the report, the number of flu cases confirmed in the laboratory and reported to the RKI nationwide in the current season is over 255,000. 558 deaths were reported in connection. The registration figures are only a part of the entire event.

The number of additional infections with bacteria (group A streptococci) has also increased - with some serious illnesses, it said.

With regard to acute respiratory infections overall, the experts write of stable values. The estimated rate is in a range as in years before the pandemic.
