The US-based man went to the Embassy of Turkey in Washington, D.C. and donated $30 million. Apparently, the Pakistani didn't want to take credit for it, he wanted to remain anonymous. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif tweeted that he was "deeply moved by this example". "These are such glorious acts of philanthropy that allow humanity to triumph over seemingly insurmountable obstacles," Sharif said. The Turkish state news agency Anadolu Agency also reported on the case.

A week ago early Monday morning, a 7.7-magnitude tremor shook southeastern Turkey and northern Syria, followed hours later by a second severe 7.6-magnitude tremor. More than 40,000 dead have been confirmed so far, and thousands are still missing. Around 1.6 million people live in emergency shelters in Turkey. The World Health Organization (WHO) described the quake as the worst natural disaster in the region in a century. The need for help is huge and growing by the hour, said WHO Regional Director for Europe Hans Kluge.
