Customs officials discovered a huge amount of cocaine hidden between bananas in Duisburg. They seized 635 kilograms of cocaine. The drugs were pressed into blocks and sealed in foil and hidden between bananas in several boxes. According to customs, the street value of the cocaine is around 44.5 million euros.

The cocaine had already been discovered about a week and a half ago, as the Essen customs investigation office announced on Monday. It had been brought to Germany in a sea container from Ecuador via the Dutch seaport of Vlissingen. When the goods were unloaded, employees of the company receiving the bananas discovered the drug packages. They alerted the Essen customs investigation office, which is now conducting further investigations on behalf of the Duisburg public prosecutor's office.
