Ms. Becker stated that her son was 'dying to see his father' and that she hopes they can visit him in prison.

Boris Becker's ex-wife has spoken out about her "hardest moment", when she revealed to their 12-year old son that their father was going into jail.

Sharlely "Lilly” Becker spoke on Piers Morgan's Uncensored on Tuesday night to defend her husband after his two-and-a half year sentence in prison for bankruptcy fraud.

The Dutch model, 45, also said to TalkTV that she "broke down" at her sentencing. Lilian de Carvalho, the current girlfriend of the tennis star, reached out first.

Ms. Becker said that she was completely overcome by emotion when asked about her reaction to the sentencing.

"I could not believe what I heard because I was certain, until the judge made her ruling, that he would get a little lighter than two and half years.

"I had to keep it all together, and I don’t know how I did that."

Ms. Becker said, "We all pulled together – the ex-wife and the children, as well as Lilian, his current girlfriend Lilian. The first thing we did was to reach out to one another.

"It's difficult because it's public, and it's everywhere.

"It's difficult because everyone has a opinion about it, and rightly so.

"I'm here for everyone to see that he has a lot of really strong women behind his, and who are not here to speak for him but to protect him."

Ms. Becker stated that telling her son two days later was the hardest thing she had ever done.

She said, "I had to break this down to him."

"We had chosen not to talk about the trial or any other topic as a family.

"But I couldn't help but break his heart, or rather my heart, last Sunday.

"I wouldn't wish it upon anyone." It was the most difficult thing I have ever done."

She spoke out about Becker and said, "Thank God his mental strength is so strong and that he's probably ready for these moments."

On Friday, Judge Deborah Taylor at Southwark Crown Court sentenced the six-time Grand Slam champion to a 30-month term. He will serve half of it for hiding PS2.5million of assets and loans in order to avoid paying his debts.

Three-time Wimbledon champion, 54, and former world number 1, was declared bankrupt by creditors on June 21, 2017. He owed almost PS50m to creditors over a unpaid loan of more that PS3m on his Spanish estate in Majorca.

Former BBC commentator, he transferred nearly 427,000 euros (around PS390,000), from his business account to other people, including Ms Becker and his ex-wife Barbara Feltus.

Becker was sentenced to a two year suspended sentence for tax fraud and attempted tax fraud. The amount Becker was convicted of was 1.7 million euros (around PS1.4million) in Germany in 2002. He was also found guilty last month in four offenses under the Insolvency Act that occurred between June 21 2017 and October 3. 2017.
