It can be difficult to determine what is going on with the flood of military claims and counter-claims that social media has amplified. Here are some examples of what can be confirmed.

Activity with witnesses direct:

Russian military vehicles cross from Belarus to Ukraine at the Senkovka crossing point, Chernihiv Region

Russian military vehicles cross a bridge near Tavriysk, Novaya Kakhovka and the southern Kherson region. Russian military helicopters fly over the area.

Security camera footage shows Russian military vehicles crossing the border from Crimea to government-held territory at Armyansk checkpoint.

After being forced to land, the Russian Ka-52 helicopter gunship was seen in a field near Kyiv.

Russia-backed separatists in armored vehicles cross a river in footage taken from the eastern Luhansk area. They claim they have seized territory from Ukrainian forces.

A residential area was attacked in Mariupol. It is a strategically important city at the border of Russia and Azov Sea. Three people were reported to have been killed by the mayor. A nearby anti-aircraft base was also hit, and the mayor stated that the runway at the airport was also damaged.

-- Fighting in Hostomel. This town is 7 km (4 miles) away from Kyiv and is home to the Antonov aircraft manufacturer and an airport that can receive all types and sizes of aircraft. According to footage obtained from AP, at least one home was destroyed.

A blast from an apartment block in Kharkiv's eastern city caused a shell to explode. One resident reported the incident and stated that a neighbor was hurt in his leg. The neighbour was taken by ambulance.

Bakhmut -- There were military officers on the road just outside of the separatist-held areas. Also, there were large crowds queuing up at banks and gas stations to get away.

Ukrainian and Russian authorities announce the announcement:

Russian forces captured Chernobyl nuclear power plant, the site of the worst nuclear accident in the world (Ukrainian presidential advisor).

A military plane collided in the Obukhiv region about 40 km (25 miles) from downtown Kyiv. The accident killed 14 people, but no casualties were determined. (Ukrainian emergencies ministry)

Air bombing of Tripilya's electrical plant, 40kms (25miles) south of Kyiv in the exact same area as the crash site of the Ukrainian military plane (Ukrainian president’s office).

Russian military claims it has destroyed 83 Ukrainian military buildings and confirmed that its troops have entered Ukraine from Crimea. (Russian Defense Ministry)
